Brand 360 settings
United Wholesale Mortgage settings redesign

Overview
This project was a great opportunity to enhance the settings in Brand 360 (UWM Marketing), allowing the team to revisit and refine an experience that created many challenges for our users.
The challenge
When working on settings the first time around, the timeline for the project did not allow for research and we didn’t use a UX Writer. Consequently, the design and content relied on a lot of assumptions.
Post-launch there was a lot of feedback that the structure of the Brand 360 Settings pages created confusion for both clients and internal teams due to poor organization and unintuitive labeling, making it unclear which settings impact which platforms.
Project goals
-
Understand how brokers find and navigate to Brand 360–related settings
-
Identify where labels and groupings create confusion
-
Define a clearer information architecture
-
Write labels that provide more clarity
-
Rework designs to support and accommodate the new structure
-
Update designs to reflect any design system changes since the original launch
Research
Scope
Navigation and labels inside the Brand 360 Settings (User Profile, Company Profile, Disclaimers, Brand Profile, Alerts, and Mortgage Matchup).
Method
Card sort (unmoderated & closed) to reveal natural groupings and expected labels.
Usability sessions on Brand360 Settings (think‑aloud, navigation first‑clicks, edits).
Sample
The participants included 15 Account Executives and 10 Broker Clients.
Key findings
-
Brokers don’t associate all marketing and brand settings with Brand 360
-
Ambiguous titles and sub‑labels cause navigation detours
-
Brokers need a more unified navigation experience
-
Mortgage Matchup placement under Brand 360 feels unintuitive
-
When navigation fails, brokers quickly turn to ChatUWM or their Account Executive
Writing
Our writer created clearer navigation labels that more accurately describe the content on each page. Also, some of the copy was refined to more clearly communicate key information and reduce user confusion on several pages.

Design
Organization
Previously, personal and company information were interspersed throughout the settings experience and weren't always clear whether the information needed was from a personal or company perspective. Grouping the information into "My Profile" and "Company Profile" clearly delineates the information. Using tabs to separate information within the profiles reduced page length and scrolling making it easier to find the settings quickly.

Clean-up
There were several areas that had unused sections. For example, the Brand Profile accommodated color and font choices but they weren't able to be used anywhere. Consequently, they were removed to cause less confusion and shorten the page reducing the amount of scrolling.
The last time the settings were designed, the UWM web components and guidelines were being created as we were designing the settings. Since then, there have been many changes to the components and we saw this as an opportunity to update the styles and components.

Impact
The settings are now easier to navigate, have shorter page lengths, and are grouped in a more intuitive way making the experience less frustrating.
